ARE YOUR TEAM TRAINING RECORDS CORRECT AND UP TO DATE ?

IRMER Training

To meet the requirements of IRMER, evidence of 5 hours training over a period of 5 years must be available and retained as evidence for each clinician.

CBCT Training

Under IRMER, both practitioners and operators, must be adequately trained to carry out their duties. They must have CBCT training at a correct level and undertake regular CPD to ensure that they are up to date in their radiological and radiation protection practice.

In-House Team Training 

Evidence of team training to ensure awareness of risks and content of local rules. Nurses who press exposure button, must be trained, introduced to risks and signed a declaration to confirm this must be available.

Training Register

Management of designated person must ensure Training Register is maintained and all certificates are available for clinicians and DCPs.

Quality Ratings

Are intra-oral and CBCT images now rated using the new two - point scale as ‘diagnostically acceptable’ (‘A’) or ‘not acceptable’ (‘N’)?

You need to demonstrate that image quality performance is monitored for each clinician routinely to ensure the consistent production of radiographs of adequate quality for diagnostic purposes.

100 images must be audited every 6 months for each clinician.

As most practices now use digital x-rays, image quality ratings and performance targets have changed too.

WHAT ASSURANCE IS IN PLACE TO CONFIRM YOUR RADIOGRAPHIC EQUIPMENT IS SAFE TO USE?

Mandatory Servicing

Do you have records of mandatory 3 yearly routine performance testing for each intra-oral radiographic unit in your practice?

CBCT equipment requires performance testing annually due to greater risk of radiation.

Do you have evidence of CEAT certificates for each radiographic equipment ?

Recommended Services 

Annual electromechanical testing is a manufacturer's recommended service only, this is not a mandatory requirement, so you decide if you wish or not to have it carried out.

In - House Surveillance and Safety Checks

Routine surveillance checks must be carried out on all radiographic equipment in each controlled area and you must have logs as evidence to confirm this.

 Phosphor Plates or Digital Receptors

Regular QA checks must be carried out and logged in each surgery. If any damage could affect image quality which may then lead to repeat exposure and increased doses for patient and repeat image will count towards diagnostically unacceptable image percentage which must not exceed 5%.
